Policy for using the Zalk Veterinary Medical Library

Policy for using the Zalk Veterinary Medical Library

Scope of Policy

The Zalk Veterinary Medical Library was established in 1951 to serve not only the students, staff, and faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine, but also members of other subject disciplines that interact with veterinary medicine. The library is the only veterinary collection in Missouri and is one of about 30 in the United States. Our unique and historical resources frequently fill the needs of researchers not only in Missouri, but across the nation and around the world. During staffed hours, the library is open to the above and to the public.

General Policy

  • All users are expected to maintain a quiet and respectful environment within the library (See Noise Policy). As an academic library, users should be able to monitor one another; however, staff are happy to step in when requested, or when the situation warrants it.
  • Food and covered drinks are currently allowed in the ZVML. At any time, this becomes an issue (messy areas, bugs, strong odors, noise, etc.), library staff reserve the right to enforce consequences ranging from single individuals not being allowed to bring food to no food allowed in the library.
  • When the Mizzou campus is closed due to weather or emergencies, the ZVML will not be staffed, but staff will be available online.
